Nintendo America has revealed that the DSi is selling at an insanely fast rate

So that Nintendo DSi, the one people said no one would buy just for a camera? Apparently it’s selling a lot. We knew that already knew, but it’s selling even faster than the original DS, the DS Lite and even the Wii. Yeah, the Wii.

Responding to a Nintendo Minute Question posed by IGN, Nintendo of America’s VP of Corporate Affairs, Denise Kaigler has revealed that the DSi is currently on 1.7 million units sold for its first 3 months on sale. The DS could only manage 1.38 million and the Lite even less on 1.07 million. The Wii is the only one to come close, on 1.52 million.

Keep in mind while these are lower, the DSi these numbers are still insanely huge for any console and a marvellous feat. The DSi here in Australia has sold 100,000 units already and the DS Platform has remained the best selling console for the last two years. It now might make a third.
