Dead Space: Extraction not your conventional shooter

by Josh MouldsMarch 21, 2009

Dead Space on the Wii will be many things- but just dont call it a rail shooter. Electronic Arts were greeted with delight and then dislike from fans when they announced the sci-fi horror adventure would be coming to Wii, but not as the same third-person player-controlled shooter. The made-for-Wii title will be driven by the remote’s pointer controls to make use of the original games gory dismemberment combat and feature familiar weapons. More inside When questioned about similarities between Extraction and recently-released zombie shoot-fest The House of the Dead: Overkill, Dead Space producer Steve Papoutsis had this to say:

Dead Space: Extraction is a guided first person experience – we have branching paths, areas of player controlled camera, zero-g, dismemberment, stasis, an array of unique weapons, TK, and a few other surprises that evolve the genre in many ways. Overkill was fun and, yes, it was a pure rail shooter. We have added so much to Extraction that comparisons to it should quickly fade away.

Dead Space: Extraction is a prequel to the original and will feature a cast of new and familiar NPCs and settings.
