Capcom unsure about multiplatform ports coming to Nintendo Switch

Capcom was asked about it’s Switch support in a financial questions and answers sessions recently and whether or not it would bring PS4 and Xbox One titles to the Nintendo Switch. Here’s what they said;

We are currently carrying out research with regards to multiplatform implementation of software for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One onto the Nintendo Switch.

That sounds good, but they continue with;

However, we do feel that there are differences in the desired direction and the play-style of the Nintendo Switch and those of the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. At Capcom, we determine which platform to release a title for after considering the features of both our software and the hardware in question, believing we must bring the enjoyment of our games to their maximum potential.

As a software publisher, we endeavour to develop games that offer enjoyment best suited to each piece of hardware’s features and target users. Following first party, in order to introduce our own content we are currently moving forward with internal planning and analysis as a partner company.

If this all sounds fimaliar its because Capcom have said nearly the same thing for both the Wii U and even the Wii U. With the Wii U they said;

With regard to WiiU, in general we’re looking forward, not back so late ports are generally not on the table.

And with the Wii they said;

Up until now, after releasing our PS3 and Xbox 360 games, we have brought them to the Wii. Basically, this is the approach we are considering taking.

Capcom then went on to make original games for the Wii, port things like Resident Evil 4 to the Wii and even bring a 3DS Resident Evil to the Wii U. It even shoehorned Dead Rising on to the system with huge compromises. So whatever Capcom is really saying and what they’re really going to do. We don’t even think they know.

    Yikes…doesn’t sound promising at all. As long as they keep releasing Monster Hunter games then I don’t really mind…but if the switch doesn’t get resident evil 7 and so on, then it’ll be like the wii u all over again.
