Australian and New Zealand Wii U Virtual Console Pricing revealed

Advertisement

Last night Nintendo announced the Wii U Virtual Console, what we didn’t find out is how much the pricing would be for Australia. Today we have that information as well as the pricing for ‘upgrading’ your Wii Virtual Console titles to be on the Wii U properly.

You can already play your Wii Virtual Console games on the Wii U in Wii Mode (if you do the transfer) but if you want to play them on the GamePad in Wii U mode then there’s a small fee. The upgrade also includes customisable controls and save states much like the Nintendo 3DS has.

Here’s the pricing for Australia and New Zealand;

  • NES titles: $AU 6.50 / $NZ $8.50
  • SNES titles: $AU 10.40 / $NZ 13.60
  • GBA: tbc

The ‘upgrade’ pricing is as follows;

  • NES titles: $AU 1.30 / $NZ 1.70
  • SNES titles: $AU 1.95 / $NZ 2.55

The Wii U Virtual Console will launch officially in Autumn, however until then you can pickup a range of titles at .30c each month with the Famicon 30th Anniversary specials.

What do you think of the pricing?

    sorry but $10 for a SNES game sucks… will pick up stuff when its on sale maybe…

    $6 for SNES and $3 for NES and they’d sell a hell of a lot more in my opinion

    Prices are a little steep, but it’s Australia it’s to be expected. Not too bad though. Curious how much the GBA and N64 titles we end up being not to mention the eventual GC titles.

    I’ve got about $500 of Wii virtual Console that I have moved over to my wiiU. One game wouldnt transfer annoyingly. Its going to cost me quite a bit to upgrade them.

    hopefully the ‘upgrade’ costs count towards the Premium pack 10% rebate.

    I have about $1200 worth…. That really doesn’t roll with the AUD vs the USD value at the moment. Shafted for being an Aussie fan AGAIN!

      Remember Wii retail prices? $99.95 AUD vs $59.99 USD. Titles such as NSMB Wii, DK Country Returns, MK Wii & SMG 2 to name a few…only now they’re starting to come down, but still well above what the US or even the EU pays.

      Although the gap between our prices and theirs is closing…sadly, we still have to pay that premium.

    I’m don’t like to complain much, but this is just WRONG. At the time of the ND I was hoping the prices he gave were global. Once again Aussies and NZ’ers have to dig deeper in their pockets compared to everywhere else. And I only have about 15 NES/SNES. How about the guys above me? They’re not alone, judging from some of the reactions I’ve read on other forums. A lot of Ninty fans are going to feel burned and I don’t blame them. They really should do something for big spending fans. And they haven’t released prices for N64 Wii U VC titles. They’re going to be expensive and I have a few N64 games as well. I applaud the ND, only the prices have left a bitter taste.

      Your choice to upgrade or not. If u want to pay $2 to play a snes game on the wii u game pad, go for it. Costs nothing to transfer the games and play them in wii mode – just do that if u don’t like it. They are offering added functionality to what u originally purchased for a small fee, are u going to complain everytime there is downloadable content for a price in a game? Same thing. This is a company in business guys, not a charity. The console sells at a loss already, they can’t take hits everywhere.

    Just great. Now we have to pay even more for the upgrades. Why could we not just pay the same price? The 30c games are the same globally, why did they have to change these prices? I’m probably just going to upgrade a couple of N64 games and leave it at that seeing how expensive this is becoming. And they haven’t even revealed the N64 prices yet!
