Where were you last night at midnight? If you enjoy video games you would most likely have been one of the many thousands of Nintendo fans waiting outside your favourite retailer to get your hands on a Wii. Hundreds of retailers across Australia opened their doors at the stroke of midnight to allow fans to get their Wii fix as early as possible.

Early indications suggest Wii may very well break the record for the biggest week one launch of a new console which is currently held by Microsofts Xbox 360.

The Xbox 360 sold through 30,421 units when it launched in March this year. The Wii launch has been described as "unprecedented and unbelievable" by Neil Merola, Business Manager, Myer Electrical. He further clarified that "hundreds of people queued outside our stores across Australia before doors even opened, to be amongst the first to purchase Wii".

Also the West Online is reporting that some Perth electronic retailers sold out of the Wii before midday, with shoppers in a frenzy to get their hands on the Wii. Third party games and Accessories have also been hard to come by especially later on in the day. With the launch out of the way there is still a way to go before the Wii can be considered successful in Australia but all the early signs are pointing to a positive outcome.

Vooks will update with more pictures of the launches around Australia.
