Amiibo third wave announced – Lucario, Bowser, Sheik, Sonic, Mega Man and more!

by Daniel VuckovicNovember 11, 2014

Nintendo has revealed its ‘third wave’ of amiibo figures that will be released soon.

In keeping with the Super Smash Bros. theme the figures will be more fighters from that game. The list includes Lucario, Rosalina and Luma, Bowser, Toon Link, Sheik, Ike, Meta Knight, DeDeDe, Shulk and even the third party Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man will get a figure.

All of the figures will release on January 22nd 2015, except for Shulk, Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man who will release in February in Japan. No western release date has been announced as of yet.

The Japanese amiibo site was also updated with a list of supported games. We already know that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors will be compatible for launch but we now know that Smash Bros. is the one game that can write to the amiibo figures. Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors simply can read from them.

We’ll badger Nintendo Australia to find out when we’re getting these figures.

These look great!… Hopefully Nintendo have thought a bit more about each figures pose & will avoid any ugly pee yellow stands to hold them in place. Definitely a better set of figures than the first round

Awesome range of characters here, can’t wait.
Vooks staff, have you guys got any of the initial set of figures yet, I’m interested to see what you think of them ?

Huge Sonic and mega man fan so hopefully this will pave the way for more third-party characters from their respective casts. But I’m still not sold on the amiibo, rather spend money on games than figurines, it’s tempting to buy a few to test them out but I’ll be awaiting for the Vooks verdict before I part with any money.
