Amazon backflips on Aussie ban, reopens ordering from US site to Aussies
Earlier this year legislation in Australia changed that would require international sites to charge Aussies GST and pay the Australian Government tax on every sale. Instead of doing that a lot of retailers just stopped selling to Aussies, the USÂ Amazon.com was one of these.
Now Amazon is reversing the decision and as of today re-allow Aussies to buy from Amazon.com. Speaking to News.com.au, a spokesperson said: “As a result of customer feedback, from November 22 Amazon customers will be able to ship eligible items from Amazon.com to Australian delivery addresses”. This isn’t everything back from Amazon.com, but its a start and third-party sellers will return.
Since the ‘ban’, Amazon.com.au has been selling items from the US site, but only some of them and it hasn’t widely been advertised. Perhaps not only a backlash but a drop in sales was enough to change their mind.
