50 millionth processor chip ships for Wii

by Josh MouldsMarch 16, 2009

IBM, makers of the Wiis Broadway CPU, have announced they have shipped the 50 millionth processor to Nintendo. To date, Nintendo has shipped 44.96 Wii units, and given how close the figure is to 50 million, indicates how closely the two companies have kept up with enthusiastic demand for the console. The two companies have participated in producing Nintendo console products since IBMs manufacturing of the Gekko Processor for the Gamecube. “”IBM has a long, successful relationship with Nintendo combining silicon technology with game system creativity to deliver winning products.”” Brian Conners, IBM Microelectronics.
