Wii U gains Google Maps and Panorama View in early 2013

by Daniel VuckovicDecember 6, 2012

Nintendo has announced during it’s latest Nintendo Directs that both Panorama View and Google Maps will be coming to the Wii U.

Panorama View was a simple demonstration program that was shown off the Wii U at E3 a couple of years ago.

It allowed you to move in real time a scene around in 360 degrees using the GamePad. Panorama View will eventually be available to purchase from the Wii U eShop in 2013 however there will also be a demo version released as well.

Adding to the applications available on the Wii U is a special version of Google Maps. While it will have the usual mapping technology you’re used to it also has a special street view mode that you can use in conjunction with the GamePad to look around. This can also be used on the TV as well of course.

There’s not a more specific date than 2013 at the moment for these two but we’ll let you know when they’re up.

It’s in interesting idea and its great to see Google on a home console but it does feel like a somewhat odd fit. Maybe it’s just me.
