Wii HD, in 1080p, more powerful than the PS3, with HD screen on controller

The rumours of a Wii successor and indeed rumours of its specs have hit boiling point overnight with several websites claiming different sources have all told them different things about what will be in the next Nintendo home console.

At this point there are so many different rumours from so many different sources so well just give you all the facts from all the different sites below.

GameInformer says: the Wii will indeed be "capable of running games at HD resolutions", however no details on how powerful it will be were given.

Kotaku says: the Wii successor "will be more powerful" than both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

IGN says: That the Wii successor will be "announced" between now and the E3 2011 in June. That just means Nintendo will do their usual press release where they announce that at the E3 they will be showing something. IGN also claims that it will be fully backwards compatible with all Wii games, and it will be released in late 2012.

CVG says: the Wii successor will have an "all-new controller" with have an HD screen on it, though its not known whether or not thatll be a touch screen. The console will also be "more powerful" than the current consoles and be backwards compatible with Wii.

So whenever this pre-E3, pre-new-console announcement period gets rolling, there are always going to be rumours. Most of what has been said above (in terms of power, backwards compatibility) will happen naturally so theyre probably not wrong – but youll always get a few outlandish claims. Our advice: set hype meters to "tentative".

Theres no doubt though, theres a new Nintendo console on the way. And its going to be a long 18 months.
