Wii Mini to hit US stores later this month

Nintendo of America has announced that it will bring the diminutive Wii mini to US stores later this month.

The Wii Mini will cost just $99 and have a copy of Mario Kart Wii included with a Red Wii Remote and Nunchuck as well. No doubt hoping to hit that budget market.

The Wii Mini was first released in Canada this time last year and then moved over to Europe soon after. The machine features absolutely no online play, strange considering how good the online is in Mario Kart Wii. There’s also no support component video and of course does not play GameCube games.

Nintendo Australia have previously said the Wii Mini wasn’t coming here but times do change, it was announced last year after all. Then again if you really want a cheap Wii you can find a Wii with Mario Kart already cheaper than $99 here in Australia.

Nintendo are being a bit clever with the Wii Mini and Mario Kart.

The original Mario Kart Wii bundle did not have the Motion Plus version of the Wii controller.

So this bundle is better than the original. No mention of the included wheel though.

Still, I prefer a good second hand Wii with all the homebrew possibilities and game saves.

Actually, the Mario Kart Wii bundles (white/black) do in fact include a Wii Remote Plus. I bought one for $99 for a few months ago. BIg W is currently selling them at a dirt cheap $74.
