Watch_Dogs will be the final ‘Mature’ game from Ubisoft on Wii U

Ubisoft used to love the Wii U, they supported it pretty well at launch and then things went sour. They famously delayed Rayman Legends to release it on more consoles, we missed out on Assassin’s Creed DLC, they’re sitting on a completed Wii U game and now they’ve all but given up on the console.

Speaking with Game Informer, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has given an update on the companies Wii U support – well what’s left of it.

Despite the fact that there is a ‘last generation’ Assissin’s Creed game this year on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 there will be no more Creed titles on the console.
It’s very simple. What we see is that Nintendo customers don’t buy Assassin’s Creed. Last year, we sold in very small numbers.

What we see is that they are very interested in Just Dance, very interested by other kinds of games. So what we are trying to do is to focus more on the types of games they are interested in.

Watch Dogs is coming to Wii U. It will be the only mature game we publish on it.
Ubisoft isn’t completely in the wrong here, their sales on Nintendo platforms make up only a very small amount of their profit. Most of that profit was from the Just Dance titles on the Wii as well, now that’s dried up and with the Wii U under-performing it’s hard to make a business case.

Watch Dogs will be the last ‘hardcore’, if you want to put it that way, game on the Wii U – whenever that eventually does get released.

I got both of them on Wii U but you have to admit it is kinda an odd platform for those games to be on. There was never the 360/PS3 sales potential on the one hand and on the other it was never going to run as well as it does on PS4/XBOne/PC. I’ll be surprised of Watch Dogs sells at all on Wii U.

No dlc for assassins creed 4, batman arkham origins dlc cancelled, injustice characters and Skins dlc not supported on wii u, release the 3rd entry of a game that everyone has played years ago then announce the trilogy of said game for the other consoles.

And 3rd parties wonder why we don’t buy thier games on nintendo systems.. amazing.

I own a Wii U and Xbox 360, but bought the Wii U versions of AC III and AC IV to support the platform, not that it did much good. Off screen play and having the map on the gamepad were nifty features.

Why wont people buy our delayed lazy ports with missing content?

I’m not a fan of Assassin’s Creed, so haven’t helped much. Did buy one on the Wii U to give it a chance, but just didn’t get into it. But ZombiU is a Wii U favourite of mine! So this news really sucks…

I was under the impression that ZombiU significantly outsold Just Dance on Wii U, unless you add up all the different Just Dance releases together.

Why should we be supporting a publisher that delayed ray man to release with other consoles, but release watch dogs first on all and delayed the wii u version? Any excitement or anticipation for the game vanished with that sort of release strategy.
Also when it comes out for wii u eventually at full price all other ports will be cheaper so I might as well buy a Steam version!
