The Legend of Zelda for Wii U no longer releasing in 2015, will not be shown at E3

The upcoming Wii U instalment of The Legend of Zelda will not be releasing this year.

In a new video update released this morning, series producer Eiji Aonuma has announced the delay and also said the game will not be at E3 either. He explained the the reason for the delay as below;

“In these last three months, as the team has experienced firsthand the freedom of exploration that hasn’t existed in any Zelda game to date, we have discovered several new possibilities for this game, As we have worked to turn these possibilities into reality, new ideas have continued to spring forth, it now feels like we have the potential to create something that exceeds even my own expectations.”

“As I have watched our development progress, I have come to think that rather than work with meeting a specific schedule as our main objective, and releasing a game that reflects only what we can create within that scheduled time, I feel strongly that our focus should be to bring all these ideas to life in a way that will make The Legend of Zelda on Wii U the best game it can possibly be.”

Aonuma was quick to apoligise to fans but said the team is “no longer making a 2015 release our number one priority.”

Not only is the game now delayed but don’t expect to see it for a while either, Nintendo of America has tweeted that the game will not be shown at this year’s E3 Expo either.

The feeling amongst fans has been that the game wouldn’t make 2015 for a while now, it begs the questions though – if not Zelda then what else do Nintendo have for this years big Wii U holiday game?

    Mixed thoughts

    On one hand, its disappointing that it won’t be released this year but I was kinda already suspecting this.
    It is also disappointing that the game will not be shown at E3.

    On the other hand if they rush the game, it will also be bad and if they feel it won’t be good to shown it at e3 then it probably won’t be.

    Remember: “A delayed game is eventually good; a bad game is bad forever.”

    Maybe Nintendo will simultaneously release this on Wii U and the NX, just like Twilight Princess was released on Gamecube and Wii.

    Pretty bold claim to make when you consider they never said it wouldn’t release in 2015.
