Tekken Team to be involved with next Super Smash Bros on Wii U and 3DS

When it was announced that not one, but two Namco Bandai studios were working on the new Super Smash Bros game, some were sceptical. After all, Smash Bros is serious business.

Namco Bandai though aren’t phased with Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada saying that the game is a ‘Big Priority For Namco’ and that “company-wide there are a lot of people involved with that particular project. Not just from Tekken but a lot of our franchises.”

Harada however then says that “Although our main core staff is busy with Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and trying to finish that up, I do think we’ll support the initiative in some kind of capacity”, indicating that not everyone is working on the game just yet, it is still being co-developed with Sora under the watchful eye of Sakurai.

So what about some Namco characters appearing in the game? Since the announcement Harada has been asked it many times, especially from western fans and he’s been asked the most if Tekken characters appear. He however, isn’t sure at the moment.

“We’re not really sure at this moment but when thinking of the playerbase who is playing Smash Bros, maybe Tekken characters is something they wouldn’t want, so I’ve been pulling back on that a bit. But I don’t know.”

I think he is right, I dont think tekken characters would fit. But the likes of Pacman could possibly work well in there.

Is Nintendo still developing it wih Namco Bandai as codeveloper? Or is it all Namco Bandai, with Mr Sakurai only supervising it?

i for one could not stand tekken characters as it would sort of be like nintendo selling themselves out. The only tekken game that come on nintendos consoles was Tekken 3D: Prime Edition and that was this year. To me its like letting master chief being aloud to brawl its just not right because before this year tekken was never on any Nintendo consoles. The only exception they could add would be if they let a “tales of” character join or a “soul calibur” as soul calibur has appeared on Nintendo consoles twice once on gamecube and once on Wii. Where as Snake was only on the game cube version but who doesn’t like snake… 😀
