Nintendo unleashes a monster campaign with Mario prizes, videos and one great interview with Marios creator

The Super Mario series turns 25 this year and Nintendo wants everyone to join in on the festivities. Nintendo Japan has set up a very special 25th Anniversary portal filled with nostalgic Mario sprites and other fantastic Mario content galore. The biggest part of the anniversary so far is the upcoming Japan-only release of the limited edition Super Mario Collection Special Pack for Wii, and you can read all about that here.

Theyve got some sweet Mario goodies up for grabs too for 9000 randomly-selected people who register a Mario game on Club Nintendo. The prizes include Mario and Luigi tote bags, a shirt and playing cards all themed for the 25th Anniversary. Nintendo is also giving Flipnote Studio users the chance to submit Mario-themed animations as part of a competition. The best creation will be featured on Nintendos home page, the Nintendo Channel and the Japanese DS at Mac service.

If youd love to sit back and look over the history of Super Mario, then waiting for you is a long video showcasing the great games that have made the series so loved around the world, as well as an extensive interview with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto (its in Japanese so Google Translate is your friend!).

We havent been forgotten down under, though. Nintendo Australia has set up its own mini portal featuring a timeline and video of the series titles, plus a competition to win a red, blue or yellow DSi XL (out on September 23) and a copy of New Super Mario Bros. To enter, think back and tell Nintendo your favourite Mario moment.
