Suggestions that Nintendo’s ‘Quality Of Life’ products are ‘on the back burner’

Time is fast running out in 2015 if Nintendo plan to show off it’s mysterious Quality of Life products as planned. There’s now suggestions from industry analysts that this won’t happen and whole thing has been quietly put on ice in the wake of the passing of Satoru Iwata.

Announced at the start of 2014 we haven’t heard much about the QOL platform or products outside of some discussion at investor meetings and possible patents. Lewis Ward, research director for gaming at IDC believes “it’s been pushed to the back burner, It’s supposed to be released in the U.S. by the end of March, but I haven’t heard anything”.

Wedbush Securities’ Michael Pachter, who is often critical of Nintendo takes it one step further and believes the entire thing is probably dead. He believes the company should focus on mobile.

I think it’s probably dead—just like the Wii Vitality Sensor was before and they didn’t tell anybody. They have been completely invisible as a company since [Iwata] got sick. The whole point of helping with lifestyle was getting people to buy more Nintendo devices—and I think they’re hurting so badly in devices that they’re trying to stop the haemorrhaging there. …I would say they’re probably focused on just getting their mobile initiative working. That’s far more important than QOL.

What do you think, Were you interested in seeing what Nintendo could do in the health field? Is QOL still coming?
