Nintendo already said that they had good sales for December, but they were just softening us up as they’ve done better than they were letting on, with a record-shattering 3.8 million Wii systems and 3.31 million Nintendo DS consoles sold in December. Nintendo was predicting just over 3 million units for the Wii but this figure puts it a lot closer to four. The previous record for a single month was 3.04 million for the DS in 2008.
Software sales, as well, were phenomenal too with New Super Mario Bros. Wii topping the charts with 2.82 million sold. That’s more than Modern Warfare 2 on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 combined, perhaps Reggie was right? Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort were in the second and third positions above Modern Warfare 2 as well, selling 2.41 million and 1.79 million respectively. It’s also nice to see Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story pop into position ten with 656.7k sold.
While it’s all good to report about the top of the chart, we’ll also keep you up-to-date with what’s below the top ten.
