The reaction to Nintendo’s first 2D console Mario title in three generations, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, has been very positive so far—it currently holds a score of 86/100 on Metacritic and we gave it a 9.2/10 in our review. However, the Japanese games publication Famitsu has rewarded the game a very high honour: a perfect 40/40 score, which means each one of the magazine’s four editors gave it a 10/10. It was only just last week Famitsu gave Bayonetta a perfect score, they are handing them out like candy as of late.
As a result of this, Nintendo consoles and handhelds now have eight out of the thirteen games given 40/40 by Famitsu, with only Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker not from this generation.
