Japanese Club Nintendo offers new WiiWare game
Nintendo’s Ultra Hand toy makes a delightful comeback to the 21st century.

The Ultra Hand was one of Nintendo’s earliest successes in the toy business. Created in 1966 by former employee, Gunpei Yokoi, the Ultra Hand was simply an extending arm that reached out and grabbed objects.

Members of Japan’s Club Nintendo now have access to a WiiWare adaptation called ‘Wii de Ultra Hand’, or ’Ultra Hand on Wii’. Players hold the Wii Remote and Nunchuk vertically to control the levers of their on-screen Ultra Hand.

The aim of the game is to grab meat off a distant grill and place it on your plate without dropping it. The skill part of it comes to play when you grab combos of properly cooked meat and use power-ups that increase the heat of your grill, thereby increasing your score.

Feeling competitive? Then summon your little sister (or brother) Iron Chef-style and face off in a 90 second battle. The player who gets the most meat on their own plate, even if you have to steal your opponent’s, will reign supreme.

The original Ultra Hand toy cost ¥600 on its release while 50 Club Nintendo Points buys a code which is redeemed in the Wii Shop Channel to download the title. At 50 Points, it is the cheapest Club Nintendo item yet.

It is not known whether the title will ever see a general release on Japan’s Wii Shop Channel, let alone worldwide. Hopefully a future Hanabi Festival will prove otherwise. But man, who wouldn’t want the original Ultra Hand toy in all its awesomeness instead?
