First third party Wii Remote the Nyko Wand on the way
It’s taken nearly 2 years but a third party has gotten around to creating a third party Wii Remote. Nyko has revealed the ‘Wand’ at this year’s CES. While retaining a similar shape to the standard Wii Remote, the wand contains bigger and brighter buttons, as well as an oddly shaped D-Pad. Most likely it has taken this long for the accelerometer tech to reach a price where Nyko could develop a Wii Remote. What makes the Wand interesting is the ‘Trans-Port’ Technology that it contains. More inside..
Trans-Port technology allows compatible accessories to use the attachment port on the bottom of the Wand to send commands. For example the current Nyko Perfect Shot and Nintendo Wii Zapper mechanically presses the B button to fire, a new accessory could theoretically allow the B button to be presses digitally without a mechanism. This could also allow you to remap buttons to the controller which may be awkward to press while in a shell to other buttons on an attachment.
“We’re very proud of winning this year’s Best of CES in the Gaming category with the Wand and pleased with the warm welcome it has received with its debut,"" said Chris Arbogast, director of marketing at Nyko Technologies. ""Nyko constantly strives to provide new products of significant value to consumers that will enhance the video game playing experience and recognition of the Wand for Best in Gaming is a testament to these continued efforts."" The Wand has a tentative release date of April. source: CNET
