Former Nintendo chairman richest man in Japan
Forbes has published a list of the 40 wealthiest people in Japan and guess who is sitting pretty at the top of the pile? None other than former Nintendo chairman Hiroshi Yamauchi whose net worth soared US$3 billion in the past year for a total of US$7.8 billion. The ex-Pres is no doubt sitting on the top of the heap thanks to a huge windfall on the back of the success of the Wii and Nintendo DS. More inside.
Yamauchi is the majority shareholder in Nintendo and with the way the company's stock has performed in the last couple of years it was bound to make anyone rich. Yamauchi knocks property developer Akira Mori off the top of the list, who increased his net worth by US$2.2 billion to $7.7 billion, but not enough to stay on top. Only $7.7 billion you say? The total worth of the top 40 was US$89.9 billion. Source: Forbes
