Star Fox Zero delayed – barrel rolls into Q1 2016

Nintendo has posted a message from Shigeru Minamoto on social media today announcing a delay to StarFox Zero.

The game won’t be delayed too long, but it will miss the big holiday season period. It’s new release date is sometime in Q1 2016.

Delaying a game to make it better isn’t terrible, the big question is now – what do Nintendo have this holiday season for the Wii U?

Almost zero.

I made a big decision last week.

We have been developing Star Fox Zero for Wii U with the aim of releasing it this year. Although we felt that the development had been progressing well, we now believe that we will need a little more time to work on areas such as the unprecedented discovery that we want players to experience in the game by using two screens, and further polishing the level designs and perfecting the tone of the cut scenes. While we have already reached the stage where it would be technically possible to release the title in time for the year-end holiday season, we want to polish the game a bit more so that players will be able to more smoothly grasp the new style of play that we are proposing.
To the people looking forward to the launch of the game this holiday season, I am very sorry.

Star Fox Zero is going to bring new game play and experiences that take it far beyond the framework established by Star Fox 64. All the members of the development team are doing our best so that the final product will not betray your expectations. And the game will not be delayed for a very long time – we’re aiming to launch the game in Q1 2016.

Please stay tuned for further announcements.

That’s disappointing, but we’ve still got Xenoblade Chronicles X to look forward to on Dec 4th. Maybe they can pull a few eShop titles out of a hat to stuff the Christmas stocking?

Absolute crap Miyamoto. There is very little they can ‘add’ in a few months.

It’s being bumped to next year because Nintendo knows their release list is an absolute disaster for next year.

It’s probably a blessing, cue the quote about a rushed game being bad forever etc. But yes Vooks, it does leave a sizable gap in the xmas schedule and it’s all Nintendo’s fault really. Still, that’s one more game for Wii u in 2016…dare I say that it may b shafted for NX?

Better they delay rather than rush games for Christmas then release patches later.

Great caption for the article. Because it did look a bit rubbish from what I’d seen. Where are all the enemies and some level of intensity?

I’m glad they are holding it back, there are too many great games on my Wii U at the moment that I’m struggling to keep up!
Splatoon never stops giving, Mario Maker is insane, Devil’s Third is as funny as hell and score attack keeps me coming back and that’s without Project Zero, Xenoblade and Mario Tennis.

Not to mention Fast Racing and a few other eshop titles I’m yet to play.

    My wallet thanks you Nintendo.
