Nintendo Switch Online app update lets you keep chatting when you switch apps

You asked for it and Nintendo delivered. A new update for the Nintendo Switch Online app — version 1.1.0 — has just gone live on the Google Play Store and iOS App Store and with it comes a much requested feature: you can now keep using voice chat even when your phone is in sleep mode, or when switching to other apps.

Many were upset to learn that voice chat would only work if the Nintendo Switch Online app was open in the forefront and would suspend the voice chat if switching to another app or even turning the screen off. It’s worth noting, however, that on Android devices on 6.0 (Marshmallow) or later, voice chat will not work in sleep mode if power-saving mode is active, though it should still work in the background of other apps regardless.

There’s still a lot that could be improved with the Nintendo Switch Online, both the service and the app, but it’s good to know that Nintendo are listening at least.

Are you excited about this new update? Do you even use voice chat in the Nintendo Switch Online app? Let us know in the comments below!

This is great news, while I don’t use the app yet, its nice to know someone at Nintendo has either a) realised that the world works differently to how they think it does or b) finally started to listen to feedback provided by their users lol

I think by next year’s online service reveal, they would have ironed the bugs out. But seriously, they just can add it to the switch itself.
