The Wii U hasn’t gone the way Nintendo planned at all but that doesn’t mean they’re giving up. Instead they’re going all in on the Wii U and the GamePad concept.

Speaking an investor and analyst briefing this morning in Tokyo, Satoru Iwata told the the audience that Nintendo now acknowledge that GamePad recognition is low and that people still confuse it as an add-on for the Wii. It’s becoming such a big issue that they’re finally going to do something proactive about it.

Nintendo is now working on games that leverage the second screen as well the systems inbuilt near field commutations tech (NFC). Titles that make use of these will be revealed at E3 2014.

Using the GamePad’s screen and NFC abilities is just two of range of ideas Nintendo is using to get the GamePad’s recognition up. It is also planning on making Nintendo DS games available on the Virtual Console and make a quick boot up menu for the system.

Will these help in the long run? We’ll find out.
