Update: The Japanese Famicom Mini has also been discontinued as well. Nintendo has posted a message on their website.

Original Story: Earlier in the week we revealed that the current batch of NES Mini restocks in Australia would be the last, and that Nintendo had possibly discontinued it.

Now Nintendo of America have confirmed it, the NES Mini has been discontinued. The following statement was given to IGN;

Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability.

We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.

It really does seem like the NES Mini caught Nintendo by surprise, they even went as far to say that;

NES Classic Edition wasn’t intended to be an ongoing, long-term product. However, due to high demand, we did add extra shipments to our original plans.

With this news and our original report its probably safe to say that the Mini has been discontinued everywhere. But we’ll wait and see if we get a response from Nintendo first before sealing the file on this one.

    Madness. If they are doing this to devote all manufacturing effort to making Switches I get it. But at least tell us that more will be made later. Not hard.

    At least I got one the other day when Vooks notified us of this rumour and that EB Games had some online. Without that I would never have gotten one. Thanks Vooks!
