Nintendo asked Criterion Games to work on F-Zero game for Wii U

Nintendo been cold on F-Zero for more than a decade now with the last big release in the series back on the GameCube. Fans have been clamouring Nintendo to make another, they haven’t as yet but it now appears they were looking into it in 2011.

According a report by NintendoLife, Nintendo of Europe approached Criterion Games in early 2011 to see if they would would like to develop a F-Zero title for the Wii U. Criterion Games  was the developer of the Burnout series.

The idea was that the game would be shown off at E3 that year, Criterion however declined already busy working on Need for Speed: Most Wanted. That game would eventually come to the Wii U, it was great but its not F-Zero.

Maybe in some alternative universe there’s a Criterion Games developed F-Zero title, alas not to be in ours.
