The Nintendo 3DS has now turned three years old

The Nintendo 3DS is now three years old, at least in Japan it is. It actually turned three on the 26th but we totally forgot, sorry Nintendo 3DS we’ll make sure we remember the next time.

The Nintendo 3DS has had a traumatic life, while like anything new it was hotly anticipated just before launch and everyone was expecting a lot coming off the Nintendo DS.

Then the launch and consequential drought happened, the first 6 months of the consoles life were terrible, there was a lack of games and things just pretty much sucked as promised features were left waiting (sound familiar?).

Then came the price drop, the Ambassador program and then finally the games (and the 3DS XL). Things looked much better – despite the money Nintendo was losing. It took until late 2012 however for the console to really shine, last year saw more top quality games from Nintendo than we’ve ever seen out of them before. It was almost too much. We nearly begged them to slow down. Nearly.

Well then, here’s to 2014!

What’s been your favourite Nintendo 3DS memory so far?

I think some limitations or concerns of the 3DS need to be resolved to go to the next level of capability..

    1. Does it ruin your vision.

    2. Gyroscopic controls are incompatible with 3D.

    3. There is no real time wireless streaming of 3D video to the 3DS.

    4. There is no automatic stereo correction with viewing position which may be possible using the inside camera.

    5. There is no bluetooth capability for pairing with other devices or controllers.

    Other than that, its terrific.

This is going to sound ridiculous, but the best 3DS memory I have is not with a 3DS game, but rather a DS game I finished on my 3DS. 999: Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors had the biggest mind-screw at its true end.

Haven’t gotten to Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward just yet (since I’m waiting on my hard-copy), but I am sorely looking forward to it!

Arkhe, be careful where you save in Virtue’s Last Reward. There is a game killing bug about 30 hours in. The downloadable and PSVita versions are safe, but the physical 3DS version is not.

although I am about to purchase my 4th XL when the Yoshi one comes out still my most mem. experience was my very first go on one at a pre-release evening when playing as Link I walked thru Hyrule field on LOZ in glorius 3D, the 3D has always suited me.
