Nikkei reports large-screen 3DS and Wii U pricing, Nintendo refutes

This year’s E3 has just kicked off and we’re already hearing reports from Nikkei about a new large-screen 3DS.

Yep, you heard me right, a large-screen 3DS. The Japanese news giant believes Nintendo will reveal this new version of the 3DS with a larger screen at some point during E3 2012.

This new model’s display will apparently be 4.3 inches in size (which is 1.5 inches larger than the current model’s display) and is expected to launch in America, Japan and Europe as early as this summer in America, so that’s not too far away.

On top of this, Nikkei provided some alleged juicy details about the pricing of the Wii U. The system is expected to be sold for around 30,000 yen on release, which is only 10,000 yen more than the Wii’s current price in Japan. The Wii U amount translates to around AU$400.

The paper has also reported the Wii U will receive a stack of free digitally distributed content, including a car GPS, books, and a karaoke service with roughly 10,000 songs. Whether Australia or even Europe will ever receive these free services though is another question. Only time will tell.

In regards to all of this news, where Nikkei got their information from is unclear at this point in time. So right now it’s pretty-much nothing more than a rumour. Nintendo has since come out with a statement refuting the news.
