New reports suggest Wii U graphical power less than that of current consoles

It’s time for the pre-launch “power” rumours. Is it, isn’t it, more, less. The subject this time is Nintendo’s Wii U console which is set to debut later this year. Now, new reports peg the system “power” as less than even the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360. A second anonymouse developer, also speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, has much the same to say but get’s a little bit more specific – talking about graphical techniques and shaders.

The first developer said;
No, it’s not up to the same level as the PS3 or the 360. The graphics are just not as powerful.
And the second quote with more detail is as follows;
Yeah, that’s true. It doesn’t produce graphics as well as the PS3 or the 360. There aren’t as many shaders, it’s not as capable. Sure, some things are better, mostly as a result of it being a more modern design. But overall the Wii U just can’t quite keep up.
This information contradicts information given by Darksiders II developer Vigil Games, who say that the Wii U is “on par” with the current generation consoles. Earlier rumours pegged the console at 50% more powerful than the Playstation 3, and that’s not even all of them.

The real answer to this problem? No one will really know for sure until the unit is pulled apart and the parts examined to see just how “powerful” the console really is. If you want to see how good the graphics really will be, wait for the final reveal of the console.

    “The graphics are just not as powerful.”

    I didn’t think developers spoke like this.

    Sounds a bit fake to me. Even though it could all be true. I’m not expecting WiiU to be any more graphically capable than the current hd consoles. I would like to be pleasantly surprised however but I’m not holding my breath.
