Metroid Prime: Federation Force’s negative reaction not lost on Nintendo – Reggie

Nintendo’s showing at E3 2015 wasn’t its most strongest and the negative reaction couldn’t have been anymore stronger than that of the one Metroid Prime: Federation Force got. Essentially a Metroid Prime game in name only most fans were slightly miffed at the use (or abuse) of the Metroid Prime name, something that isn’t lost on Nintendo.

Speaking to Mashable, Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime has said that “What the fan at home saw was something in the Metroid Prime universe that they weren’t expecting. The reaction has been negative. There’s no sugar coating it”

“This is an example where fans who aren’t able to get their hands on the game may be at a bit of a competitive disadvantage. Everyone who has played what we are showing regarding Metroid Prime, they’ve come across really pleased, My ask is that fans trust us.”

Metroid Prime: Federation Force is just one of the many titles Nintendo is touting part of its “transformation”. “We’re taking our great IP and transforming them and making them new again — making them fresh and appealing for the fan who feels they know the franchise. But we’re giving them new things to enjoy” says Reggie.

Reggie feels that people who got to play the game at the show really enjoyed it, while the people at home were at a disadvantage.

So what do you think, could you still enjoy the game even though it’s not ‘Metroid Prime’ as you know it. Let us know in the comments.

Initially, I was disappointed but Reggie has a point. I’ll reserve my complaints until I’ve had hands on with it. EB Expo maybe?

I think that Reggie speaks some truth there. I for one am a Metroid fan of highest degree and I think this will be a fun diversion for the series – non-Metroid vibes notwithstanding. However, saying that Federation Force is part of a franchise transformation is like telling fans “this is the series’ direction for the future; get used to it”. Metroid doesn’t need a fresh lick of paint, it needs a back-to-basics Retro Studios or sidescrolling homage.

Not very promising Reggie, and precisely the wrong thing to say in an attempt to placate already irate fans.

This was a complete flop, you’re telling me that the minds at Nintendo decided that this was the best use of Metroid that they could come up with? I don’t even want to get my hands on this game so I think Nintendo failed right there.

I think it just looks like Metroid was just tacked on to the title to troll people…but I’ll also give them the benefit of the doubt. But let’s face it, it’s no 2d/3d metroid…

Didn’t people lose their shit with anger at the thought of a 3D Metroid back in the day? And look what Prime brought to the party. People are whinging idiots, and should really just shut up until they ACTUALLY experience it.

What’s happening with Metroid, is what Nintendo have been doing to their franchise’s for some time turning all their IP’s into PG games and any mature titles they do publish are usually 3rd party exclusives.
