Masahiro Sakurai confirms Dot Matrix Gameboy stage for Super Smash Bros. 3DS

Masahiro Sakurai has posted his image of the day, as usual, and has revealed a brand new stage that will be making an appearance exclusively in the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. As per usual with the arenas appearing in the 3DS version of the game, it’s based on a handheld property of Nintendo’s, or in this case, console!

The level is based on the old school Game Boy consoles, before they were backlit and before they were colour. Anyone who was around when the console was is bound to have memories of having to adjust both a volume and a contrast slider.

As you’d expect, turning on the 3D makes it appear that a Gameboy is inside the screen, so it’s a visually complete arena too, although we’re not sure if it’s going to be anything besides a flat playing field.

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS is releasing in Australia on Saturday, October 4th later this year.

Still torn as to whether to buy both versions of Smash or just the Wii U one. I guess funky little additions and exclusive stages like this (and the fact that it’s out earlier) will have me getting both, but I feel like this will be obsolete for me as soon as the console version comes out. Hopefully there are some more differences between the two.
