Japan gets Pokemon 2DS Special Editions for Virtual Console release

As if getting actual ‘boxed’ limited edition releases of Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow and Green weren’t cool enough – Japan are getting these wicked transparent 2DS bundles with the games as well. These will actually be the first 2DS models that will be released in Japan, we might have the flat console since 2013 but Japan just never got it.

The bundles come with the console in transparent colours, coloured ABXY buttons, a code for the game on Virtual Console as well as a code to get Mew in either X, Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire as well as the Virtual Console game. There’s also a map and sticker set.

These bundles will release in Japan on February 27th.

Not interested in a new 2DS? Well luckily there’s also a faceplate set coming with some of the original 151 Pokemon on it for the New 3DS. There’s just one tiny picture of it for now.image_plate_072

*sniff* So much fanfare. Why can’t we get the boxed releases? And a localisation of Green version with all of the original ugly sprites intact would be so very welcome. Yes, Nintendo, I’m willing to buy what is essentially the game FOUR times.

Are these a “New 2DS” with the faster processor?

No. They’re just regular 2DSes. A “New 2DS” would need to have the C-stick and extra shoulder buttons as well. They are most likely releasing these to attract the “Genwunners”, impulse buyers and collectors.

Wow, they do look cool, I would buy one for my nephew in a heartbeat if they came out. At least give us the physical games in boxes Nintendo Australia, you know it’ll print money!
