Guide: Nintendo at E3 2017 – All the Australian times you need

People on social media might whinge Nintendo’s E3 ‘only being 25 minutes long’ but if you look past just the one part of Nintendo’s E3 offering – well there’s a tonne more to look at over the next week.

Nintendo’s E3 is going to be huge, the Spotlight will start us off and then its Treehouse, Arms, Splatoon, and even Pokken tournaments. It’s going to be a long week and we’ll be covering it all, Luke is on the ground in LA as well. Keep it locked on the website and like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and Instagram to keep up to date.

Be sure to also to follow the fun in the Vooks Discord channel for hot takes galore. We will also be announcing a time for a live podcast in the next day or so.

The Nintendo Spotlight will be the big kahuna, this 30-minute long presentation is bound to be packed with footage of everything for the rest of 2017 on the Switch and we’re hoping for some 2018 things as well. Super Mario Oddessy so far is the only game that is confirmed to be making an appearance but we’re sure we’ll see Splatoon and even Pokken Tournament DX included in there.

Nintendo says there might be some Nintendo 3DS things as well, but expect a full focus on the Switch.

Kicking off ‘directly’ after the Nintendo Spotlight is the Nintendo Treehouse: Live. These streams will offer a deep dive in the games shown in the spotlight. Nintendo always also seem to have a second day of E3 surprise up their hands, if so it might be revealed here. Last year it was Ever Oasis which got this honour. Below is more information about the events from Nintendo and local Australian time;

What: Members of Nintendo’s Treehouse will once again delve into the details of the Nintendo Switch console and games for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, including Super Mario Odyssey and Pokkén Tournament DX. Viewers will get an in-depth look at gameplay and hear behind-the-scenes details about Nintendo’s lineup for E3.

Who: Treehouse members, as well as developers and other game experts, including Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company. Ishihara and development team members will talk about the upcoming Pokkén Tournament DX game for Nintendo Switch.

Treehouse runs a couple of sessions of a couple of days, but the first one kicks off right after the Nintendo Spotlight.

The big one! Teams from all over the world – even Australia- will battle it out to see who is the best at Splatoon. Our own Aussie team the Blue Ringed Octolings will be there and you should be too to cheer them on. At least as much as you can from behind a computer screen.

For the first time ever, competitors from four different global regions will compete for world dominance in Splatoon 2. The four-person teams – from the United States, Japan, Europe and Australia/New Zealand – defeated their local rivals and gained the chance to take on competitors at E3.

Teams will battle in a round-robin Turf War tournament that will decide seeding for the next round. All teams will play one another and get a chance to scope out their opponents’ strengths and weaknesses. In the next round, teams will battle in the game’s Ranked Battle modes, in addition to Turf War. The semifinal stage will be a best-of-five battle, while the championship will be best-of-seven.

Prize: The winning team will win global bragging rights and its members will have their names engraved on a sweet Splatoon 2 trophy.

Teams: Deadbeat (U.S.), Dynameu (Japan), Rising Moon (Europe), Blue Ringed Octolings (Australia/New Zealand)

Casters: Jordan Kent, Ashley Esqueda and Nintendo of America’s Eric Smith

Crew battle with four teams and two players per team. Random draft order. The first person in each crew must choose one of the new characters; the other person can choose one of the original characters.

Prize: Winners will each receive a Pokkén Tournament DX art piece signed by Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, and members of the development team.

The date you have specified for the Nintendo Spotlight is WRONG.

It’s on June 13 @ 9AM Los Angeles time (not June 14), which converts to 2AM on Wednesday Sydney time (not Thursday).

Hmm, is there a mistake in those times? How can the Treehouse stuff be starting straight after the Spotlight when you’ve listed it as the day before? ?

Hopefully they announce a Smash Bros for Switch, I’ve been getting belted by twelve-year-olds on 3DS for too long :O

I’m interested in what EA will be discussing for the Switch other than FIFA 🙂

Microsoft own Minecraft, so you never know.
Also they own Mechwarrior/Battletech so I’m hoping for MS to allow that to come to the Switch, especially considering they allowed the (sadly rubbish) series Mech Assault to come to the DS.

Trying to keep my expectations down in terms of new surprises. If it’s only 2017 games being shown, then that would be ARMS, Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Pokken Tournament DX. From 3rd parties, FIFA 18, NBA2K18, Skyrim, Rayman Legends DX, Mario + Rabbids, and a bunch of Indies, if you go on Nintendo’s earlier statement of trying for one big release per month, you’ve kind of already have that.
