For the fourth time EB Games’ website crashes thanks to Mini NES demand

This morning EB Games once put the NES Mini up for preorder at 12pm AEDT and once again the website couldn’t cope with the stress. Yesterday EB Games said it would double its server capacity to try and cope, but it’s turned out that even that wasn’t enough. The site was struggling even before the go time.

The stress was so bad EB Games even tweeted not to bother to login or attempt to login, their service for the account system we guess must had fallen over as well. The website now, half an hour later is completely down and if you do get it to load it’s a 503 error, white screen or a message saying ‘Don’t fret’.

At this point it’s clear that in it’s current format the EB Games site can’t cope with this level of server stress and continually hyping up particular times of the day for everyone to jump on is just at best a tease, at worst torture. EB Games should perhaps just figure out how many NES Mini’s they have left, distribute them to stores and do a lottery at each store at this point. Stores do it for limited edition sneakers and those are in even bigger demand than the NES Mini.

That or Nintendo just needs to do it on eBay. Whatever the case is, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.

How did you go this morning? We’ve seen just two people post about getting one and a whole lot of disappointment for everyone else.

Well it took 35 mins of refreshing my browser but I finally got one ordered.

I was one of the lucky ones who got theirs in the first shipment.
It’s crazy how much they under estimated the popularity of this item.

I feel sorry for the people who work at EB.
I’ve heard of them copping abuse, being spat on and even bomb threats!

It’s insanity, it’s not their fault. They’re just doing their job.

So jealous… hitting refresh @ 11:59, using mobile and work PC. Got one in the checkout, entered card information but “error” just seemed to be the flavour of the day for EB.

So, after 40 mins of refreshing, I had to eat lunch and get back to work, no MiniNES pre-ordered.

Hate seeing eBay resellers who have multiple items selling their “extras” for exorbitant amounts.

After 2 hrs of trying to get through the checkout, only to get the “sorry sold out” screen
    We are not impressed.
Lets hope Target have their site ready for the hords

I got one today, took about 25 minutes. I happened to see the instructions they posted on Twitter just before they went live saying NOT to log into your normal EB World account and check out as a guest, maybe that helped me.

When there was a strictly limited edition Final Fantasy XV super collectors edition released by Square Enix, EB Games let lots of people pre-order and then chose who would get it at random from that group. I cannot understand why they didn’t do the same thing for the mini NES this time around. Leave pre-orders open for say 2 days, then assign stock to a random selection from those that ordered, and cancel the remaining orders.
