Vooks.Net Community Terms of Service
Last Updated: 17th November 2011 by James Mitchell [Community Manager]
The Vooks.Net Community is here to provide you with a platform on which to discuss games, give ideas, and express opinions and just generally converse about Nintendo games, general gaming and other topics that may not fit into either. A community is held together best when it's member interact in a civilised manner with courtesy and respect. As such, it is imperative you conduct yourself in such a manner.
The guidelines listed herein are what the administration and moderation team expect from you. Moderation decisions are generally not by committee, and are subject to the acting staff member's full discretion. Access to these forums is a privilege, and not a right, and your post count or tenure has no effect or immunity from severity of decisions made by the team. Vooks.Net reserves the right to temporarily or permanently prevent access to these forums at any time for failure to follow the code of conduct.
Breaching of any of these terms or conditions will issue a warning based on severity. Severity will be decided by the moderator undertaking the decision at the time.
The moderating team reserves the full right to review each incident breaching the codes set out below and will decide severity of punishment if needed. You, as a member, reserve the full right to request another moderator be assigned to your incident should one be filed, for second judgment, although the staff at Vooks.Net do not factor bias into decisions made.
As a final note, keep in mind that Vooks.Net is a forum open to all ages, and we therefore expect all members to act in a way that is appropriate for all audiences.
1.0 Personal Behaviour
Individuals may not post any form of language that is hateful, vulgar, discriminatory, abusive, sexually harassing, in addition to refraining from any posts that invade an individual’s personal privacy and/or law. Cursing excessively is not allowed, and bypassing of the swearing censors is prohibited. Sexual, racial or ethnic slurs will not be tolerated within the Vooks.Net community. These include slang terms such as "gay", "homo" and "faggy". Such terms are homophobic, backwards and immature and will not be tolerated on the boards.
1.1.1 Spelling & Grammar
Not everyone is perfect with their spelling and grammar, but a competent level of spelling and grammatical mastery are required to post on this forum, in order to better facilitate discussion and reduce miscommunication. Abbreviations commonly used in text messaging and chat rooms are not welcome in the Vooks.Net community. This not only makes your posts easier to read, but less childish too.
1.1.2 Excessive Capitals / Punctuation
Excessive use of capital letters or punctuation such as exclamation marks (!) will not be tolerated as these are attention grabbing methods. These will be edited and topic creating privileges will be removed if this code is continually violated.
The act of adding negative comments to discussions with the sole purpose to elicit a negative response from other members is also known as Trolling. Trolling is prohibited on Vooks.Net, negative comments are welcomed if they properly add to the discussion, and are constructive. A user’s original intention, whether or not to "troll" does not pardon them should a moderator interpret their actions as trolling.
Posting of pornographic material, including videos and images, is strictly prohibited. Videos or images depicting rape, incest, bestiality or excessive violence will not be tolerated either. The moderating team reserves the right to remove said materials if posted.
Advertising, soliciting or selling goods through posts, private messages and email through Vooks.Net is strictly prohibited. Personal website links are only allowed through your own profile and are not to be posted anywhere else.
1.5 Self Promotion / Personal Gain
Advertising your own private websites and or affiliation is strictly prohibited. This includes but is not limited to posting Play-Asia Affiliation Links, promotion of events run by you, requesting individuals to assist them in joining the WiFi Connection Ambassador program or requesting or pestering individuals for Club Nintendo Points cards. On the topic of the latter, giving out Club Nintendo Cards through your own volition is acceptable. A pardon may be gained from the community manager only if requested prior to posting.
2.0 Illegal Activities
2.1 Mod Chips
Modification Chips for all consoles are permitted to be discussed due to their legality in Australia, but only in the capacity for them to allow the enabling of imported games.
2.2 Flash Cards
Flash cards can be used for development and homebrew reasons and can be discussed on the forums as long as methods promoting piracy are excluded from discussion.
2.3 ROMs, ISOs & Back-Ups
Discussion and promotion of how to copy and back-up any form of copyrighted software or media is strictly prohibited.
2.4 Homebrew Applications
Discussion of the Homebrew Channel and unofficial third party applications are allowed, however the promotion of these software in a capacity that encourages or illustrates methods of piracy is strictly prohibited.
2.5 Requesting Illegal Copies
The requesting or provision of any illegal copies of software or copyrighted media is strictly prohibited.
2.6 Television Shows & Music
Posting of links supplying illegally obtained or copyright breaching media including television shows and music files is strictly prohibited. Admission to doing so is also prohibited.
3.0 Vooks.Net WiFi Club
The Vooks.Net WiFi Club is automatically open to all registered members of the Vooks.Net community, and is operated by Phantom Ganon. As such, within the WiFi Club forums, the club operator has full moderating privileges and the right to parse decisions about the community should they fall within his jurisdiction. If any incidents escalate they will be handled by the Community Manager, James.
While the WiFi Club does encourage competitive behaviour, sometimes even for prizes, there is to be no negative remarks, or information that divulges specific strategies intended to make one club member lose in their game. As stated in TOS 1.1, excessive cursing and hateful language will not be tolerated either. While we can't control what happens online, you will be asked to leave the chat room and be excluded from future competitions if there is sufficient complaint received pertaining to your conduct.
During competitions and organised matches, should any players be caught cheating to give themselves an unfair advantage, they will be banned from the WiFi Club and made ineligible for prizes. Further violation of this rule will result in a ban from the community as a whole.
As with the forums themselves, blogs are open to all kinds of discussion.
4.2 Language Use
Blogs are not to feature any form of language that is hateful, vulgar, discriminatory, abusive, sexually harassing, in addition to refraining from any posts that invade an individual’s personal privacy and/or law.
Blogs, while hosted on Vooks.Net, are the opinion of the original posted and the comments and/or views posted are in no way affiliated with Vooks.
5.0 User Profiles
Avatars attached to your profiles may be uploaded to our own server (preferred) or hot linked from another server. It goes without saying that these images must adhere to the rules outlined in TOC 1.3. The maximum size for these images is 150 x 200 pixels, or 200kB - whichever is smallest. In the unlikely event an image is uploaded over this limit, it will be removed and / or deleted following warning from the community manager.
Signatures are a privilege and many very busy forums disable them completely. Signature images are unable to be strictly moderated automatically; so many community leaders will be checking forums for violations. Signature images may be a maximum of 500 x 180, with a file size between 0kB and 1mB. Additionally, 2-3 lines of regular text are allowed OR 1-2 lines of large text. User Bars or Gamercards are permitted but if they are not the "main attraction" of your signature, they must not exceed 220 x 65 pixels. Once again, the appropriateness of images can be found in TOC 1.3.
5.3 Profile Content
As stated in TOC 1.1, individuals may not post any form of language that is hateful, vulgar, discriminatory, abusive, sexually harassing, in addition to refraining from posting any information that invade an individual’s personal privacy and/or law.
