Australia is turning into America. :(

A guy drove out into a red light to make it so an ambulance could get past, the court wouldn't wave his fine. What is Australia coming to? What happened to "helping your fellow man". Will Australians just turn into Americans and only care about their family and friends and not give a f*ck about anyone else just because they could get a fine if they did?
What if the man just sat there instead of moving out the way, and it was your family member or you in desperate need. That extra 2-3 minuites is life threatening.

At least he made the effort to get out of the way, unlike so many other people who think they 'own the road'. And their little trip down to the shops is more pressing than an ambulance.

That's ridiculous.
The traffic superintendents name should be Mark Unfairney.

All we can do is try to keep the world sane in our day-to-day lives and on the long scale do battle with the stupid elements of society like this.

From this line, it sounds like the photo was the only evidence available meaning that the guy screwed up by not getting evidence of his own. He should have at least been able to get ambulance records that supported his claim. Maybe the result would have been different if he had been able to prove his case.
Also, the end of the article indicates that the case hasn't been taken to court which is where exemptions can be made for particularly unusual circumstances. I don't think police have any authority over the matter once a photo has been taken. In NSW at least, it's in the RTA's hands from that point and they're only able to alter the fine for specific circumstances. That's where it gets frustrating because court is an expensive process and likely outside of the man's means.

I read that the ambulances arent going to help with the case and they dont do it with any case.
And also, the Ambulance would have gone through the red light too, so there would be a photo taken of that as well so the driver of the ambulance would have gotten a red light fine too.

Even though this bloke is being honest and he was doing the right thing, it could cause a problematic precedent where people start to bullshit for their own personal gain and I can see why they're taking the stance they are.

I can totally understand, but the fact that the ambulance saw what he did; and was not used as eye witness evidence is very upsetting. whether the person bullshits or not, the people in the ambulance surely would have a significant sway to obliterate any bullshit in the end.

Road accidents & deaths do have something to do with the red light, if traffic accidents wearnt so bad then the law would be more flexiable with this case.

I was under the impression you had to do everything legally possible to get out of their way, not including red lights and speeding...

If we were becoming more like China, they would have said "Hey you went through a red light" and the driver would have said, "Yeah, so?"

These sorts of generalised posts are silly. Also I really don't like all this "WORLD IS GOIN TO sh!t" rubbish. I'm pretty sure the world never was rosy. You live in a better world than this fictionalised past you refer to. Like I said before, AT LEAST WE DON'T GOT MONGRORIANS NO MOAR!
The problem is bureaucracy, not people, SRSLY. Go call Today Tonight or something.
