First released gameplay footage from TGS 2011

New gameplay footage from GDC 2012 (featuring VF cameo appearance!)

And here's a few screenshots that I believe were released at last years TGS.

So, who's interested? I think I'll be grabbing it. I played DOA4 before I really got into fighters, so I just mashed and mashed until I finished Arcade mode and stopped. Have a feeling that I'll take a bit of time to understand how DOA works now and see if I enjoy it.
It's looking damn pretty. Fighting system reminds me of Mortal Kombat with all it's juggles and such.

DOA4 was one of the first fighters I really got into, but now I don't know if i want to even bother. It's simplicity is just too, errr, simple for me. I'm also not a huge fan of the characters.

Didn't Yosuke Hayashi say he wanted to portray the women in a more "realistic" and :"sophisticated" manner this time around? Riiiiiiiiiight. Tried DoA4 but naturally hated it. Stoopid traditional fighting games.

I am impressed that they have tried to make the women look a little bit more human. They don't look like those awful AKWAIWIAWIAIIAIIII dolls anymore.

Fully agree. The doll look was graphically impressive for Xbox/PS2, but with current consoles it felt like while still pretty, they were a bit lifeless.
Very glad they're making characters more 'human'. You can kinda notice Hitomi's face seems a little more German/European now, which is nice.

I'm still not convinced that they'll make the fighting mechanics any better, though, especially when Itagaki has left. Though I suppose DoA4 was a step in the right direction. No matter how small that step was. >_>

Also, apparently Akira will control just as he does in Virtua Fighter (vomit) and the game will be enjoying a global release in September.

New trailer, a month out from launch.
I think I will grab the game, just to try something different from the 2D CAPCOM fighters I'm used to.

I think I'll be grabbing this too - DoA has always been quite simplistic but no where near as bad as other 3D fighters like, say, Tekken (which I'm also grabbing >_>)

WE MUST PLAY

Not sure about the Collector's Edition though... swimsuit unlock?
The soundtrack might be neat, I dunno. At least it's kinda reasonably priced.

It's very reasonably priced, especially for some, though not sure how much I want it.

I also hate those non-Steelbook metal cases.

It appears, according to that picture at least, that it comes with the standard case as well, much like RE5 did. So I'd just keep the game in that, and the fluff in the big metal case.

I know this will sound like me trying to cover up being a pervert, but I really want the costumes as I like having the complete package.

Bikinis or not >_>

I bought DOAX2 one time. I had a small hope that the volleyball might be actual fun like Beach Spikers.
I returned it, felt bad owning it after the lulz wore off :\

I imported a copy >_> and after I was "done" with it I sold it off to someone who paid something ridiculous for it (like $90) so I almost doubled what I paid for it.

Some people are just too keen - I always get a bit scared when I see someone buy the PORTABLE VERSIOn and a PSP just to play it (it still happens ;_;)

So I played Story a little bit first day I got it, and kinda didn't play it for a bit thanks to RE6 and life. Given it some more time tonight, and finding it's quite fun. The story mode is good for teaching you the basic of countering and such, giving you bonuses for pulling off various techniques.

I think I'll main Mila, quite fun.

Back when I played this semi-seriously, I used Christie and Helena. I wonder if things have changed enough that I'll have to re-evaluate.

The systems and mechanics have definitely changed between DOA4 and DOA5.

I do remember DABBLING in Kokoro and El-Fuerte tryhard as well though.

The story mode in the game is RIDONKulous. Almost worth playing for the ludicrous cut scenes alone. As I mentioned above though, it's also good at teaching some of the techniques.

Played a couple hours online with James as well, was good fun. It's easy enough to pick almost any character and have fun with it, but has a bit more depth if you're willing to look for it.
