Go Bernard! He's so great the whole country is now on first name terms with him. :D

I think I might pop down to Melbourne Park later in the week to have a look. Had a bit of fun when I went last year so it should be good.

I am probably the only australian that's sad about it all. I placed a little wager on him winning the first set :(

Love the mass of tennis that we get early in the year. Especially when the cricket turns to shit.

Tomic was outstanding. Hoping to see him mature as a person over the next few years, and undoubtedly his game will get him far, even at this early stage of his career.

Might I suges that this is renamed to the "Tennis 2012" thread, just to make sure it doesn't die in a few weeks?

I think either way, it'll die regardless. I know my interest in tennis disappears after Aus Open, only to resurface for about 2 weeks when Wimbledon is happening.

I'll change it after the Aus Open finishes.

But yes, exactly what benanen said - when the Cricket deteriorates... enter Tennis! Love watching it though, and it's great to have an Aussie man to cheer on. The ladies are going OK as well, and I mean... who doesn't love that side of any tournament? :P

I'm a big Jarmila Gajdosova fan - she's not playing too well at the moment, so hopefully she can turn things around soon.

I've got nothing against her, but her performance at the Hopman Cup really put me off. By 'performance,' I mean pretty much giving up and sulking/crying during the 3 games of the match, going down 6-0, 6-0.

Hey.

Hey.

I don't think Gajdasova has the mentla application to make it. Though a lot of female players have this problem. Ana Ivanovic is one I like to point to. Though maybe I'm just seeing things because she likes to fist pump when the opponent makes an unforced error. Which irritates me.

Does anyone know what the deal was with Tomic taking the umpire's shoe off at Kooyong?

I was so disappointed that I switched off the Tomic vs. Verdasco match after the second set. I didn't want to see him lose after having such high hopes for him to do well, but it turns out that I just missed a mighty comeback. Damn :(

Tbqh, I did this too. Though I wasn't dissappointed, more happy that he ended up winning. I always tend to think that I jinx players whenever I watch them for some reason. I'll always have massive respect points for Verdasco though, I'll never forget that semi-final he had with Nadal two years ago. That one was an epic.

Yeah, she's definitely got issues.

Also, lucky that Bagdatis lost; he was getting low in racquets... What a display, hope he get fined.

And did anyone see Wawrinka's semi-grope i the lineslady?! :P

Stan is in. He is in big time.

I was at Melbourne Park today. Had a Hisense Arena pass too and I was happy with who we got to see. Ivanovic, Tsonga, Kvitova and Murray. Very nice day for the tennis too.

Despite Baghdatis' outrage, I didn't think it looked bad of him. I thought it was quite entertaining. He still was a good sport, surely apologizing on why he was feeling annoyed.

Also great to see Tomic push through. btw did Hewitt beat Roddick? I missed that game. :(

Roddick had to retire with a groin strain, so Hewitt is through.

Thanks^^ Got to watch the Tomic/Dolgopolov match. super intensive. wonder how much of that incident with the ball calling from Tomic changed the game against Dolgopolov?

Tomic beats a girl? Nice :)

Is it un-Australian to say that he's going to be beaten convincingly by Fed in the next round?

Never say never. Federer's been on the descent since 2008 and he had that injury just a couple of weeks ago. It's not like the match will just be handed to Tomic, but he's still got a shot.

Tomic lost my fandom with last night's match. I hope Fed demolishes him.

Because he tried to challenge and the umpire didn't see?

Lleyton won tonight, so good on him. Doubt he'll get passed Djokovic though.

Funny, because I had the same thoughts too. Not just in regards to his unseen challenge and also his speech at the end of the match sounded a bit douche-baggy. In other news, I watched the Lleyton match and I'm glad he won. another intense match worthy of watching.

As I said, I think Tomic has a bit of maturing to do. Hopefully he gets like Hewitt, who is such a top bloke now, compared to when he was younger.
