Hmm, that graph shows some good figures, but the games are all mostly similar... from what I gather, Skyrim is rather different to MW3 and the likes... Civ might be the exception.

Think of me as a hermit, living under a rock and all, but I haven't followed Skyrim at all... release date passed me, no idea what the game is like or about, apart from giants launching what looked like a bear over a mountain... big lols there.

Put it this way: think about the ultimate fantasy story, where you're the main character. That's where it starts.

You can choose your race (elves, men, fish-men and cat-men), then specialize in arts under sorcery, stealth and combat. You can get all sorts of weapons, armour, spells, enchantments and so on, own your own house (or several), have a wife/husband. You can also choose to join certain factions, like opposing sides of an army, a secret assassin's organisation, or a college of mages. Apart from all this, you are also able to go through the main quest where you are the Dragonborn, a prophesied hero who is essentially the ultimate dragonslayer. On top of all this, the game world is absolutely massive and beautiful, and you can complete quests at your own leisure.

So basically, if you like high fantasy in any way, this game will consume you. My dude in heavy Dwarven armor:

Arent they reptilian?

Also the purpose of that graph is to show how insanely well the game has performed player-wise, since the other games there are all EXTREMELY popular.

Well, the Argonians are pretty much lizard people with water-breathing abilities, and hail from a marsh land, so for the sake of simplification, I called them fish-men. :P

Wonder how my GT440 will handle this. It's pretty much my only bottleneck in terms of game peformance. If I can run Bad Company 2 at a good framerate on Medium at 1680x1050, I would hope I'd be able to do the same for this game. I don't even need huge amounts of AA, I can live with 2x.

Still going to wait for GOTY edition though or at least for the patches and mods to start rolling in. So that I don't run the chance of having stuff like this happen.

The guy still loves the game though.

Hahahaha, so true. However, the only bug I'm concerned about is the crashing to desktop error, which I'm sure will be patched out fairly soon. There's just so much going on in this game that I can't fault it for having these sort of 'silly' glitches, and really, they are few and far between when comparing the size of the game to the frequency (and severity) of these flaws. Still, the spectacle of watching a giant bat a goat into the upper stratosphere is second to none.

Is that a glitch? I just generally thought they did it to impress you with the strength of the giants. Though I guess that would mean it should probably be able to do the same thing for your character. *waits for giant launching you into stratosphere mod*

I don't think it's a glitch per se, it's just ridiculous. But it also happens to the player, I've died many times from being ejected into space with a hit from a club. :/

So have been playing Skyrim for about maybe 4 or 5 hours now. Have a basic character level 3, specialising in destruction and conjuration magic.
No special robes so far, just entry level stuff.

It's not hard to lose yourself in this game. I just spent a solid couple of hours tooling around Whiterun. I was smithing, enchanting, alchemy-ing, breaking into houses, stealing stuff, pickpocketing and selling shopowners their own goods to increase my speech skill. That's a heck of a lot of levelling without going anywhere near combat. Kind of kicking myself for realising I could have used the blessing of Arkay to boost my stealth skills after doing it, though.

GoE and I spent time belittling the game ad Robbo played yesterday. It looks exactly as expected, ie FO3. Can't believe they still haven't stopped giving the PC game non-console interfaces. Seriously. Also dislike the inventory interface. Very non-RPG.

I'll still get it on Steam sales when decent mod packs are out though!

Don't pretend to have a temperate, middle-ground opinion of the game when you spent the better part of an hour saying how BAD the game is.

After criticizing ridiculous things like lighting in dungeons and 'one man can't kill a dragon herr nerr blerrrr,' and concluding that the game was objectively bad from these points, I have a serious problem with taking your opinion seriously. You don't just condemn a game based on a sliver of experience with the title. That's Coffee's job.

Also, it's really not like Fallout 3. Apart from some similarities in the physics engine (it's not Gamebryo anymore, by the way), it's very different, and far more compelling.

Wait a minute. I thought the problem was that the console versions have a PC freidnly interface, not the other way around.

GoE will attest to how easily trolled you are. Because we were totally super serious and objective in our commentry last night.(it was hilarious when I hijacked your game and ohko stabbed the current enemy you had been flailing against when I was trying to be weak)I have not much against this great game, it's just fun/sad to be able to pick perceived flaws they've repeated from past titles.

You see, you apply the word 'trolled' to far too many situations. When I'm rationally responding to a legitimate argument, I'm not being trolled. I'm merely stating an opinion to the contrary and trying to back it up with solid evidence. If you want to troll someone successfully, you need to actually present a contradictory argument (usually a fallacy) for the sake of inciting a heated response. If you get that, then you've trolled. You were just pointing out largely unimportant aspects of the game in a manner that would suggest you were projecting your own opinion; it wasn't like "LOL the giants can propel you into the atmosphere BROKEN PHYSICS HURR," which would have been a funny observation, and obviously an argument had for the sake of humour. When you're having a go at things like lighting without an ounce of irony in your voice, don't expect me to laugh and remark on how funny/relevant your observation was. Case in point, don't go judging games when you've seen about 1-3% of them.

Anyways. Cave lighting has to be generous because no-one wants to walk around literally pitch-black dungeons for the whole game. That would be stupid. And the dragon-killing thing... well, it's high fantasy dude. Magic and shit. I'm sure we can allow for a little artistic license to the developers so we can have fun being a dragon slayer.

I'll give you the shoddy menu system though. It's slow and often unresponsive to mouse clicks, and generally clumsy. I'm sure some savvy modder will find a way around that though.

How is "hey GoE, if Robbo is playing Skyrim let's go on about how crap it is to annoy him" not trolling you?

Please don't take the time to write out responses to what I see as bad points of the game, my stupid uneducated apinion isn't worth countering. I realise that the game isn't hardcore enough for my personal tastes, which is the points I'm mentioning. I'm not yelling from the mountains that it's a bad game nobody should play.

No... who am I kidding, it's Oblivion 1.5. My favorite part is where you stood on an awkward pile of rocks and grinded the arrows until you killed two mammoths. If they're going to paint a beautiful and epic game world, they could at least try to stop stuff like that. Because even small points like that are immersion breakers.

Love the horse thing Catfish. Though that's the type of great-lol-inducing glitch we all love, again it's an immersion break if you're trying to be srs bsns enjoying the game. I'd rather have a horse hit an invisble wall (or even better, whinny and not want to enter) the entrance to the tower, from an immersion point of view) Again, just a nitpick.

This. Pretty weak to do so too. =/ Don't think that I would go as far to say Oblivion 1.5. Sure the jump from Oblivion to Skyrim is not as big as from Morrowind to Oblivion, but it's still notably larger and generally more refined than Oblivion. Yeah, it's also streamlined (which makes annoying people cry) but it works so much better. I agree the menus are weirdly unresponsive at times though =/

I'm enjoying Skyrim, but I didn't go into it expecting something super polished when we look at how Oblivion and Fallout both turned out in the end, but generally speaking a lot has not happened to me and I haven't exploited the system like above or found anything similar to this happen to me.

But yeah, I kind of wish I played it SOLELY and not while playing so many other games, because I have really "fallen behind". Thankfully my first (cry) degree ends on Friday so I will have a lot of free time.

Again, I could dip into semantics to say how simply irritating someone doesn't constitute trolling, but I don't think it's worth bothering.

Please don't take the time to write out responses to what I see as bad points of the game, my stupid uneducated apinion isn't worth countering. True, and I agree with the 'not hardcore' sentiment. The fact of the matter is, dragons are made to be killed, and I think that adds to the gameplay enjoyment, rather than taking away from a perceived sense of 'hardcore.'

No... who am I kidding, it's Oblivion 1.5. My favorite part is where you stood on an awkward pile of rocks and grinded the arrows until you killed two mammoths. Yes, well, I imagine the coding it would take for every creature in the game to be able to mount an awkwardly placed pile of rocks, and interact with them realistically (not to mention the advanced pathfinding) would surely take more time than it would be worth. Having said that, I wouldn't enjoy mammoths pursuing me across the map. They are woefully overpowered, so I generally stay away from them rather than attempting to kill them. Although, there are certain ways to gain the upper ground in Skyrim and fire away with arrows without feeling cheap, but these moments are few and far between. :P

I think you're a little bit ahead of me. I'm focusing mainly on the Mage questline at the moment, but I am starting to dabble in many of the misc objectives - though often they lead into fully fledged quests too.

The Daedric quests are without a doubt some of the cooler and better designed quests. I really liked Azura's one.

Robbo, Teb Mosby called to say that you're overthinking.

I'm level 14 now and starting to visit all the various holds to get a feel for the scope of the game world before I decide where I want to focus my attention next. I feel sorry for the poor wagon drivers who essentially make themselves redundant after one trip, because you can use fast travel every time afterwards. Oh, and this game would be a massive chore without that feature.
