But look at it this way, it doesn't make sense to market an HD version of the Wii in countries were HD TV take-up is low. In Australia HD TV take up is getting higher but we're only 22 million people, with an over 1 million Wii install base here. You just can't make NOJ enough money if you only have a few select regions were it is sold. I can't speak for other DVB countries like the UK, but I'm assuming HD take up is on the rise too as plasma's and LCD's become more affordable.
Although 1080p will eventually become the minimum standard for digital TV, for the time being it's being used by Sony to make more money. If you buy a PS3 which is $500 here, Sony marketing will imply that to get the most out of the PS3 you have to buy one of their Full HD tv's which average from $1000 - $4000. Sony don't really care about gamers, they care about how much money they can squeeze out of you.
Nintendo's sole business is video games, SCE is just a branch from the evil multinational corporation/conglomerate called Sony, made to capitalize on the success of the video game industry which Nintendo revived from the mid 80's game crash and made it popular again. I think that Vook was right in one of his tweets that most Nintendo games have a soul if you get my drift.

Mind you, Nintendo make you need to buy a new peripheral every six months... [/slight exaggeration]
And the Xmas Bravia+PS3 deals aren't bad if you want a TV over 40" (or whatever it is.) I know they still get more cash out of you, but Bravias aren't anything to sneeze at.
Wasn't there a WiiHD thread already?

They are happy to let the Sonys and Microsofts hit the bleeding edge because their products lose money. Microsoft spent $1B USD I'm sure I've read even before the RROD debacle on the 2 generations of Xbox, Sony lost a bundle on the PS3 and PSP whilst Nintendo popped out the #1 console of the generation because not only could everyone play it, it could plug into your telly out of the box. No HDMI, no compent, just the little yellow plug on all our TVs (except the really ancient ones).
The DS is proof that when Nintendo are ready, they'll change the hardware to suit the needs of the time but at the moment, there's no real need to eat into the sales that the reliable and money making wii is generating. I mean, it's still got it's original bundle in place (even in black, it's the same wii sports packin).

Yeah, it has that effect on me too.
I wouldn't argue that weaker graphical capabilities is a strength for the Wii. It keeps the price down, but that's all. If a particular game happened to work better with simpler graphics, there's nothing stopping from that game being made with such graphics regardless of the strength of the hardware it's being run on.

The last sentence is true of most big companies - Nintendo included. At the moment Nintendo are churning out all these simple casual titles, or inferior titles that sell well due to nostalgia (NSMBWii), with a small sprinkling of traditional type games with added on motion controls. Are they doing this because they care about gamers? They do this because they want to expanding the market. The more people buying your products the more money you are raking in!
Anyhoo, if the Wii HD were true and it had games similar to what we are seeing now but with shinier graphics then I can't say I'm interested. The fundamental problem with the Wii is not its graphical capabilities - it's that there's not enough decent games that utilise the Wii remote effectively.

My thought too, I mean aside from WiiSports, WarioWare Smooth Moves and Tiger Woods, most of my regularly played games are with a traditional control set.
Tiger Woods 2011 (or will that be John Daly 2011) will look stunning on Xbox/PS3. What else though.. Little Big Waggle 2 or Halo: Waggle Wars?

That's a little harsh. People really put time and energy into that game, its got some amazing level design and plenty of replay value.

Well that problem is going to go multi-platform now... [See: Sony Move / Microsoft Natal] Or it will burn out and become tacky: Who wants to make punching in a video game exactly the same as in real life? Just buy a punching bag and get fit for less.

Maybe. I'm not saying it felt rushed or anything or was full of glitches, but it's very 'much of the same' and people throw around the word 'nostalgic!!!" to justify this. Inferior was the wrong word to use. It's not 'inferior', it's just nothing special.

Definitely. Motion controls may have a place in gaming, but I don't think it's the future.

I know a few years ago people were jokingly saying "Nintendo will return to the ways of old when everyone copies the Wii etc." But, they could easily kick some serious arse by doing that at just the right time. The unhappy 360/PS3 owners might just jump ship if a new Nintendo console came out with traditional controls.
And as and aside, I think if a WiiHD, or in essence a Wii point five comes out it will suck, and Nintendo will lose money, and be constantly playing catch-up.

The handcannons are, admittedly, awesome. And the Wii Wheel is okay.

Me being mostly a lone gamer, (i.e. nobody in the house is keen on it.) I found it to be quite the opposite. Maybe I just played bite sized, but last weekend I played for nearly four hours.
