London's Telegraph has broken with convention and outed former race and James Bond stunt driver Ben Collins as Top Gear's The Stig.

According to the newspaper, the 33-year-old let the closely guarded secret slip when he asked Bristol gallery staff to help him produce limited edition prints of the white-suited character test-driving cars around the Top Gear track.

"I was absolutely amazed when he said he was The Stig, it was quite a big thing in a weird way," gallery owner Simon Whitehead was quoted as saying.

The BBC has a policy of never commenting on the character's identity.

A spokesman for the show, presented by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, told the paper: "We never comment on speculation as to who or what The Stig is."

Collins began his motorsport career in 1994 and has raced at Le Mans and in Formula Three.

He worked as a stunt driver on the latest James Bond film, Quantum Of Solace, and has also appeared on Top Gear as himself.

I take it you've never watched Top Gear? Because it's the motor show for people who know that cars have wheels and go vroom.

I watched some Top Gear the other day, I just keep forgetting to watch it more

What little I've watched I've found fairly enjoyable.
If only it was actually broadcast in HD when on SBS HD! >: |

Oh no, I've seen it. And it is quite an enjoyable show - the hosts are great and there's always at least one entirely 'fun' segment. But that still doesn't prevent the fact that the show is based around cars - one of the things in this world I find incredibly uninteresting and lame.

Some say The Stig doesnt drive cars, but the cars are just trying to get away from him.

Huh?

I have no interest in cars (as in engine size, power, how much 'broom broom' they do) and find cars as a hobby (motorsport, pimping rides, etc) lame.

Is that clearer?

I didn't say the invention was lame - I said I find car's as a hobby/interest lame. I'm happy to get in a car and drive, check the oil/water and all that, it's great. But I don't see the need to tweak my mad horsepowers so I can drive with the power of a Mack Truck to show off to my buddies. Of course a 'car person' might think I'm lame for tweaking my computer in a very similar way. Just a matter of opinions I guess.
