EB Games no longer taking Neon Switch preorders for Launch

With just 17 days to go it looks like the noose is starting to tighten around launch day supply for Nintendo Switch consoles.

EB Games have now closed off preorders for the Neon coloured console for launch day. The item remains on the site for preorder but only for a second shipment sometime in April.

Preorders remain open at Target, JB Hi-FI and other smaller retailers. Big W has closed preorders for all colours as of last week.

I’m so happy for Nintendo, it’s looking like the switch may actually do well ?
Though, I’m a little surprised that the neon version was the first to sell out at EB. I ordered the grey because I personally think the neon looks tacky and childish, but, each to their own, I guess lol

Im 33. I got the Neons. I love the colours. Look in my house and every piece of tech is monochrome.
Black TVs, Black amp, Black set-top boxes, Black PC tower, Black phone, White speakers..
Nintendo were a lot smarter this time than WiiU, at least colors aren’t attributed to a gimped model now. If you can’t get the color you want, at least you know you got the full console package

I too am 33 (in fact I’m 34 in march, this will be an early present to myself lol) and I can fully see where you are coming from, I just personally don’t like the mixed colour scheme myself.
That being said, I undoubtedly will be getting at least one more set of joy cons, straps and a charging comfort grip, hopefully all in “Mario” red. I’m a little obsessive compulsive and need things to match.
Nintendo have done a great job letting us gamers have a choice in our new toys…… I’m hoping for a set in “Luigi” green to be released in the future….. That would be sweet!!!

All retailers have less stock of the neon version, given Nintendo expects it to sell less. Perhaps they misjudged how many people prefer it.

For myself, I would find two different coloured joycons distracting. I preordered the grey console, although I might pick up two red joycons in future if I need them.

Yeah, I’m surprised that Neon sold out earlier too. I’m too OCD to have one of each colour joycon…I’ve preordered the red joycon set anyhow to go with my grey console.

It’s purely a visual decision, possibly making for a more appealing choice for purchasers with a family.

Say the kids want to play Mario Kart; it’s no longer “Player 1 or Player 2?” It’s “Red or Blue?” – only the two most popular colours in the world. It makes the controllers easier to identify, when detached and enforces the fact that this is a two-player console out of the box. I daresay more purchasers who will primarily use the Switch alone will go for the Black/Grey option, but purchasers who intend to regularly entertain guests/kids will opt for the Neon option.

Of course, this isn’t black-or-white. I myself am getting the Neon Switch and have no problem with the asymmetry – but I won’t be getting a multiplayer title until Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. You’d have to give 1-2 Switch to me for like, $10-15 for me to even consider it. Any the Neon just looks more ‘fun’ from an observational viewpoint than the ‘serious’ Black/Grey. It’s just a matter of personal taste obviously, and you can see the thinking when Nintendo decided to offer two colour options, and the colours they chose.

This is probably a stupid question, but if the neons are sold out for preorders, does that mean you couldn’t get one at an EB midnight launch?
