Casual Smasual, Sega wants the hardcore crowd

In a time where casual games are both easy and profitable, most companies choose to develop them by the barrel load. Sega however is sticking to what they know best (arguably), which is the hardcore. Segas Alan Pritchard points to the success of Red Steal (arguably) and Resident Evil 4 as great examples of how hardcore Wii titles can pay off. There have been some good hardcore Wii titles, says Pritchard. More inside Resident Evil 4 has done reasonable numbers; Red Steel has also performed really well. But since then, many publishers have migrated towards the more mass-market family titles, so perhaps there hasnt been the array or depth of hardcore titles on Wii. So there is definitely opportunity here. Wed like to maintain the success weve had on Nintendo formats. One way of achieving that is with new IP like The Conduit and MadWorld, and traditional Sega titles will continue to drive broader market success.

If MadWorld and The Conduit deliver as well as they promise, Sega can continue to have a strong relationship with the average hardcore gamer.
