Nintendo Europe has today confirmed that the Wii has sold to over 1 million people in the UK, therefore making it the fastest selling console in history to do so in the UK. In just 38 weeks the Wii has reached the same point as the PS2 at 50 weeks and the Xbox 360 at 60 weeks, with each being 11 and 22 weeks slower respectively. However, its not just the speed that the Wii is selling at, but the market share that it has now successfully captured. More Inside
Nintendo has had resurgence in the UK and this is evident by the 68% and the 86% of the market that Nintendo now cover in the home and handheld. David Yarnton the General manager of Nintendo UK has said The non-stop demand for Wii even in the traditionally slow sales periods for video games in the UK is clearly behind this record breaking achievement.

The performance of both systems appears to indicate that unprecedented interactive entertainment experiences, provided by a combination of the revolutionary nature of DS and Wii with the increasing number of unique software titles for the system from Nintendo and third parties, are being enjoyed by both avid and new gamers of all ages. Yarnton was also quick to point out that with Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and Endless Ocean still coming in 2007, things will continue to look up.
