Today the SMH reports that, even though the Wii was only on sale for three weeks in December (and suffering severe shortages). It didnt stop the Wii from out selling the Xbox 360 (and counting three entire months) in the entire forth quarter with 51,744 Wii units sold versus 45,036 Xbox 360s. That being said the Playstation 2 outsold both wit h 122,639 units due to its cheap price and Australias obsession with Singstar, Buzz and Guitar Hero.

More Inside, including hardware charts for the last 3 months!

As mentioned earlier Wii stock was also hard to come by with all if not most retailers interviewed by the Sydney Morning Herald , with the Wii selling as fast as Nintendo was supplying them.
Speaking to EB Games managing directory Steve Wilson he revealed that “”Every retailer just sold what they had.

The Wii was constrained by inventory. We couldn’t get all the stock we wanted,”" The reason for the shortages? Nintendo Australia PR main man Vispi Bhopti said that due to Nintendo commitment to our fans that we would release this within a short, global timeframe,”"

Also thanks to Gamespot we have the sales figures all the consoles (sans Xbox, Gameboy and the GameCube for the 3rd quarter down under. Figures are from GFK (Remember the Wii only was out 3 weeks)

1 – NDS = 151,992
2 – PS2 = 122,639
3 – PSP = 55,850
4 – Wii = 51,744
5 – X360 = 45,036

As of today Wii consoles are still relatively hard to find with accessories being the hardest times of all to find. Maybe due to everyone picking up a Wiimote for some Tennis? Great sales for the Wii and DS, now Nintendo keep it up ok?
