Thanksgiving a hit for Nintendo, not affected by crisis

While Sony recently laid off a hefty amount of staff in order to compensate for the reduced demand elicited by the economic crisis, Nintendo are still, thankfully, going strong. That being said, during the Thanksgiving week in America, there were sales of approximately 800,000 for the Nintendo Wii, Iwata confirming a large jump from the 350,000 sold during the same period last year. More inside Let’s not forget about the DS either, which saw a 20% increase in sales also. Satoru Iwata recently had something to say about the Wii’s sales during the economic crisis, which haven’t really been affected at all. You can read his thoughts below.

When the economy is strong, people tend to buy three things from the top of their wish list. But when things are bad, people often buy only the first thing on their list. Fortunately for us a lot of shoppers put our products at the top of their list. – Satoru Iwata
