SEGA still keen to bring more mature thrills to Wii

The publishers of hardcore offerings MadWorld and House of the Dead: Overkill arent turning their back on the platform, despite modest sales

Both games were released earlier this year- MadWorld fell short of expectations, whereas Overkill was ultimately profitable. The varied levels of success for the high-profile titles had cast a cloud of doubt over the future of further SEGA-backed hardcore games appearing on the Wii.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, SEGA’s managing director for Europe- Gary Dunn, has said “You have to push boundaries and explore. I think whilst MadWorld commercially didn’t sell what we were expecting I wouldn’t say it’s game over for mature Wii titles from Sega…We’re taking a look at the resources we have now. We’ve got money to invest in development, we’re just considering where to invest it next”.

The next mature-focused game from SEGA will be High Voltage’s ‘The Conduit’, which ships in Australia later this month. High Voltage are working on two more adult-oriented Wii games built around the Conduit’s technology- ‘Gladiator AD’ and ‘The Grinder’, but of which are yet to pick up a publishing deal.
