Nintendo has its eye not on the ps3, or the Xbox 360, but the PS2. During its life (so far) the PS2 has sold an alarming amount of consoles and Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, sees no reason why the Wii cannot do better. Nintendo promises that the software to be revealed at this years E3 will be the key to outshining the legendary ps2. What this particular software is exactly is anyones guess. More inside It is clear however, that whatever games are shown at E3, will be the types of games Nintendo believe will sell their console in the future. Here is hoping there is a healthy mix of both casual and hardcore titles that dont need any extra peripherals.

What we are looking at are the cumulative Wii and DS sales through the end of 2008. Wii has been selling at industrys record pace so far, and with new customers acquired by the gaming population expansion efforts, it is not impossible for Wiis total sales to exceed the final install base of PS2. Wii still has much more room for expansion. We can expect more sales of software in the next fiscal year than in the current year. With what kind of software is Nintendo going to achieve this goal? Well, it will be shown at E3 to be held in the U.S. this June.
