Nintendo issues sell out notice for DSi in Japan

The DSi really does not seem like an impressive upgrade at first glance. But there’s definitely something about Nintendo’s new handheld. Not exactly the next DS – in fact, more of a “”version 1.75″” – but the popularity of the preceding system has propelled sales incredibly high. Without a doubt earning the long-running “”money printing”" gag, The DSi has sold out of Japanese stores within four days of launch. More inside Enterbrain estimated cumulative DSi sales at 170,779 just two days after launch – of 200,000 units shipped across the country. Including reservations, stores are believed to be out of stock.

Nintendo plan to ship another 100,000 systems by the end of the week. Nothing has been confirmed regarding releases in other countries as of yet, but stay tuned. When we find confirmation of an Australian release date, you’ll know.
