Nintendo goes Nintendo 3DS trademark crazy

3DSPlay, 3DSWare? Just what does it all mean?

Nintendo Japan have gone on a trademarking spree, filing all sorts of new trademarks to the Japanese trademark office. The most interesting ones point to Nintendo 3DS-related names including the Nintendo 3DS itself, but also "3DSPlay" and "3DSWare".

Could 3DSPlay be something similiar to what we have seen with Wii Play? Who knows?! But that’s half the fun. 3DSWare seems to be an obvious successor to DSiWare, and hopefully that means that the DSiWare service will continue on the 3DS.

There were also a bunch of DS-related trademarks given out too with "DS Message", "DS Cinema" and "DS Movie" looking promising.

The Pokémon Card Game name also got a refresh as well, but don’t get your hopes up – all of these names could just be to keep the names safe. But could the registration of the 3DS name point to the 3DS name sticking?

All will be revealed at this year’s E3.
